'Hotel Rwanda' manager to speak | Amarillo Globe-News

Paul Rusesabagina, a hotel manager who sheltered more than a thousand
people during the 1994 Rwandan genocide, will speak next month as part
of Amarillo College's Distinguished Lecture Series.

Rusesabagina will speak at 7 p.m. March 4 at Globe-News Center for the
Performing Arts, 500 S. Buchanan St. The event is organized by AC's
Student Government Association, and all proceeds go toward student
scholarships.

Rusesabagina, whose efforts became the subject of the film "Hotel
Rwanda," protected about 1,200 people in a luxury hotel for 100 days
during the genocide that left almost one million people dead.

During that time, people survived by placing mattresses over the
windows and drinking water from the swimming pool while Rusesabagina
convinced senior army officials to not target the hotel.
