Congressman Ed Royce, Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, issued a press release today (March 12, 2014) to bring attention to the "Killings of Rwandan Regime Critics Abroad". In a letter to Secretary of State John Kerry, he writes: "Allowing President Kagame's violent rhetoric and the slaying of dissidents abroad to go unchecked will only embolden the regime. Toward that end, I encourage you to closely reevaluate U.S. engagements with Rwanda and take into account these troubling actions when considering future assistance."

This comes days after the South African government expelled three Rwandan diplomats who are alleged to be linked to "attempted murders, including murder of Rwandan nationals" according to South Africa's Justice Minister, Jeff Radebe. (Evidence exists of Rwandan diplomats' involvement in murder: South Africa, Geoffrey York, The Globe and Mail, March 12, 2014)

-“The root cause of the Rwandan tragedy of 1994 is the long and past historical ethnic dominance of one minority ethnic group to the other majority ethnic group. Ignoring this reality is giving a black cheque for the Rwandan people’s future and deepening resentment, hostility and hatred between the two groups.”
