Ex-Rwandan Ambassador and Minister Setting Up Armed Opposition?

by AFROAMERICA NETWORK on  JANUARY 27, 2013

On the surface, the armed opposition group would appear a genuine opposition to the Rwandan government. However, the sources within DMI affirm that the group will be an extension of the DMI. The purpose is to maintain the chaos in the DRC, while shifting away the pressure from M23 rebels.
Sources within the Rwandan Military Intelligence (DMI) services inform AfroAmerica Network that a former ambassador and minister within the Rwandan Patriotic Front government is forming an armed opposition. The armed opposition is to be based in the Eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo and potentially in Northern Burundi.
According to the sources, the former ambassador and minister (NDLR: name withheld by AfroAmerica Network), who is currently based in a Western country, has been working with Rwandan military intelligence operatives in shaping up the group. One of the DMI operatives, known as Abdallah A.(NDLR: name withheld by AfroAmerica Network), is currently in an Eastern Africa/Indian Ocean country, with an official refugee status. He was briefly detained by Rwandan Security Services, when he was accused of failing to accomplish an intelligence mission. After his release, he left the country with his dependents and has been living in the Eastern Africa/Indian Ocean country, while awaiting for a resettlement for his dependents to Europe.
The sources add that the activities to start recruitment operations in Eastern DRC are being coordinated by a certain Jean Damascene Yada. On the surface, the armed opposition group would appear a genuine opposition to the Rwandan government. However, the sources within DMI affirm that the group will be an extension of the DMI. The purpose is to maintain the chaos in the DRC, while shifting away the pressure from M23 rebels.
Rwandan government is under heightened international pressure after The United Nations Security Council accused Rwandan Military and Government leaders of forming, arming, and supporting M23 rebels. M23 rebels have been accused of multiple war crimes and crimes against humanity. Their leader, General Bosco Ntaganda is wanted by the International Criminal Court (ICC) at the Hague.
Meanwhile, faced with drastic cuts in international aid, the Rwandan Government, with its never ending warmongering adventures in the Great Lakes region, is becoming less and less able to financially support its oversized military. There is already growing discontent within the ranks of the Rwandan Defense Forces, following increasing delays in their monthly pay and a high number of casualties suffered while supporting M23 rebels.
Hence, the new armed opposition would serve two purposes: shift the internal focus away from M23 rebels, demonstrate that Rwandan Government has legitimate security concerns, and maintain chaos in Eastern DRC to continue the plundering of Congolese natural resources to cover the Rwandan military expenditures.

-“The root cause of the Rwandan tragedy of 1994 is the long and past historical ethnic dominance of one minority ethnic group to the other majority ethnic group. Ignoring this reality is giving a black cheque for the Rwandan people’s future and deepening resentment, hostility and hatred between the two groups.”
