29th April 2014

Rwandan capital is expected to host this year's edition of the East
African Community's Aviation Symposium that is among other things,
expected to provide an updated picture of the new regulatory framework
to be implemented for the aviation industry at large.

The symposium has been organised by the EAC Civil Aviation Safety and
Security Oversight Agency (CASSOA), in collaboration with the Civil
Aviation Authorities in the five EAC Partner States.

To be held on May 09, this year, the EAC Head of Communications and
Public Affairs Owora Richard Othieno, said the symposium will focus on
sustainable development of civil aviation in the region.

This is the third regional Aviation Symposium and is themed:
"Addressing Today's Challenges: Aviation Safety and Security through
Regional Integration, Regulatory Compliance and Stakeholder
Participation".

An outlook into the challenges posed for the sustainable development
of civil aviation will also be addressed in relation to specific areas
such as regional integration, regulatory compliance as well as
stakeholder participation.
"The outcome of the interactive symposium will provide valuable views
from civil aviation stakeholders," the EAC official said.

He said it will aid in the implementation of the International Civil
Aviation Organization (ICAO) Standards and Recommended Practices
(SARPs), as provided for in the Chicago Convention and its 19 Annexes.
The regional symposium is also expected to bring together aviation
sector regulators, air operators and service providers, trainee
inspectors and security, air transport policy makers and academia.

-“The root cause of the Rwandan tragedy of 1994 is the long and past historical ethnic dominance of one minority ethnic group to the other majority ethnic group. Ignoring this reality is giving a black cheque for the Rwandan people’s future and deepening resentment, hostility and hatred between the two groups.”
