2014 Rwanda Country Training on Resource Mobilization, Project Planning and Proposal Writing

Dear All,

The 2014 Rwanda Country Training on Resource Mobilization, Project Planning and Proposal Writing will be held from October 27th to 31st, 2014 at Centre Christus in Remera, Gasabo, Kigali. This training has been organized by Regional Partnership for Resource Development (REPARED). The training is part of the Regional Partnership for Resource Development capacity building programme on Resource Mobilization, Community Development and Project Management aimed at mediating organizational development constraints through improved skills and knowledge. This training is the First Module to be organized within the framework of the new capacity-building programme and aimed at making participants more confident in their ability to raise resource and manage their organizations and projects more efficiently and effectively. The training aims at enabling organizations in the Region in mobilizing resources and building-up their capacity to fundraise more effectively for priority projects and facilitate the implementation of their activities.

Diploma in Resource Mobilization, Organizational Development and Project Management

This training is part of the Four Modules leading to the attainment of a Diploma in Resource Mobilization, Organizational Development and Project Management. Previously the entire course had Six Modules; however, we have incorporated topics from the 5th and 6th Modules into Modules I, II, III and IV, in order to shorten the time our trainees take to attain their Diploma. The Diploma is awarded by the International Institute of Fundraising in collaboration with Shareworld University.

Module I: Training on Resource Mobilization, Project Planning and Proposal Writing

This training is the First Module to be organized within the framework of the new capacity-building programme and aimed at making participants more confident in their ability to raise resource and manage their organizations and projects more efficiently and effectively. It is part of a series of workshops designed to help strengthen the resource base of non-profit organizations in the Region. The training aims at enabling organizations in the Region in mobilizing resources and building their capacity to fundraise more effectively for priority projects and facilitate the implementation of their activities.

There is availability of untapped resources within the Region which can be identified and mobilized for various activities. But a major cause for lack of resources for many institutions has been identified as inadequate capacity for analyzing, planning and enforcing resource mobilization activities. Scarcity of information on resource mobilization has also been identified as an impediment. Mastery of resource mobilization, project planning and proposal writing skills dictates that Organizations and individuals should learn and practice the art of resource mobilization. At the same time they must enhance their practical road- map for resource mobilization success in a highly competitive philanthropic and financial environment.

Yours Sincerely,

Dr. John Chikati

[RwandaLibre] Toronto Star - 37 minutes ago: Nigerian, Ugandan diplomats snubbed from Canada Day celebrations

Nigerian, Ugandan diplomats snubbed from Canada Day celebrations

Toronto Star - 37 minutes ago
By: Alex Boutilier Staff Reporter, Published on Mon Jun 30 2014

Diplomats from Nigeria and Uganda have been dropped from the guest
list for the Department of Foreign Affairs' Canada Day festivities in
Ottawa.

OTTAWA-Diplomats from Nigeria and Uganda have been dropped from the
guest list for the Department of Foreign Affairs' Canada Day
festivities in Ottawa, the Star has learned.

The reasons for the diplomatic snub are not clear, and Foreign Affairs
Minister John Baird's office refused to comment. But Baird has been an
outspoken critic of
anti-gay laws recently passed by the two African nations.

In January, Nigeria passed the Same-Sex Marriage Prohibition Act,
which punishes same-sex marriage with a maximum of 14 years in prison
and 10 years for belonging to a gay organization.

The following month, Uganda passed an even harsher law that provides
for a life sentence for "aggravated homosexuality" -- repeated sexual
relations between adults. First-time offenders could face as much as
14 years in prison.

"Canada has repeatedly raised our concerns with the government of
Uganda, and we have done so again," Baird said in a statement in
February. "Our engagement on human rights issues will only become more
persistent. We will continue to support efforts to decriminalize
homosexuality and combat violence against people on the basis of their
sexual orientation."

Both the Nigerian and Ugandan high commissioners were invited to the
festivities in 2013.

The Canadian Press reported Monday that Canada barred a number of
states from attending Canada Day festivities last year. In 2013, that
list included officials from North Korea, Fiji, Belarus, Iran, Syria,
Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau.

Baird's office refused to release the 2014 list of barred diplomats.

"It is not our practice to provide lists of country representatives
invited or not invited to functions at our missions abroad," a
statement from the office, emailed to the Star Monday, read.

It's not clear if officials from Nigeria and Uganda will be banned
from celebrations abroad, or just in Ottawa.

-“The root cause of the Rwandan tragedy of 1994 is the long and past historical ethnic dominance of one minority ethnic group to the other majority ethnic group. Ignoring this reality is giving a black cheque for the Rwandan people’s future and deepening resentment, hostility and hatred between the two groups.”

-« Ce dont j’ai le plus peur, c’est des gens qui croient que, du jour au lendemain, on peut prendre une société, lui tordre le cou et en faire une autre ».
