Kamala Harris and the revolt against identity politics

Tom Slater on why black and Hispanic voters are abandoning the Democrats.

Americans have had enough of identity politics. As the US presidential election approaches, Kamala Harris is struggling with precisely the kinds of voters she is supposed to be inspiring. Black, Hispanic and Asian voters have been left cold by her outriders' patronising claim that a mixed-raced woman in the White House would instantly boost their prospects and self-esteem. Meanwhile, Donald Trump – so often smeared as a 'white supremacist' – could chalk up the Republicans' best result among blacks and Hispanics for 60 years. Having spent decades taking working-class and ethnic-minority voters for granted, the Democratic establishment could be in for another rude awakening. Tom Slater explains all in our latest video polemic.
